Biography

K M Peyton was born in 1929 in Birmingham and wrote her first book at the age of nine. Six books later at the age of fifteen she published Sabre, Horse of the Sea. Sabre was followed by two more pony books written under her maiden name of Kathleen Herald. Since then she has had over fifty novels published, her most successful being Flambards and its sequels, which were turned into a popular television series. The second book in the trilogy – The Edge of the Cloud – won the Carnegie Medal, and the trilogy as a whole received a Guardian Award. Although best known for the Flambards books, some of her other notable books include the Pennington series, Fly-By-Night and The Team. According to her publishers, Random House, she now lives in Essex by the sea and still keeps three horses.

Links

Information on Kathleen Peyton is scarce, despite the fact that she is a successful children’s writer – she must be one of very few writers who doesn’t have a website devoted to her and her work. However, she is one of my favourite authors and so I tend to stock as much of her work as possible!

If you know of any interesting links, please let us know.
