Biography

What to say about the imitable Elinor Mary Brent-Dyer? She was a prolific writer, publishing around a hundred books, but is best known for the Chalet School series. For many she defines the school stories genre, but she also wrote family, historical and adventure novels, a cook-book, a Girl Guide story, and a couple of books with dogs themes. Her first published book was Gerry Goes To School (1922) which later expanded into the La Rochelle series. The School at the Chalet was published in 1925, beginning the series that would grew to number 59 books, with a number of related titles.
